I am writing my dissertation on how wetland plants in the Boreal region influence the emission of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. I do so by growing plants in the laboratory and using a stable isotope of carbon to label the plant, then tracking the 13C into the methane-producing microbes in the soil. My results are made more impactful by coordinating my laboratory experiments with the fieldwork done by my adviser, Professor Rebecca Neumann, and other members of our research group. I have been involved with the PCC since attending a Summer Institute in my second year of grad school.
