Professor Oceanography, Past Director, Program on Climate Change. My research group uses ocean and climate models along with satellite observations to untangle the role that the ocean plays in moving and storing heat and chemicals in the climate system. I lead the Graduate Certificate in Climate Science, encouraging the next generation of climate scientists to be adept at communicating not only among climate science disciplines but also to audiences outside of the UW. I have been deeply involved in building interdisciplinary collaborations across campus around the challenges that climate change will bring to natural and human systems. Teaching includes: OCN/ATMS/ESS 586/475 Current Research in Climate Science, OCN 558/ATMS 559 Climate Modeling I also led the development of Climate Model Investigation for use in high school classrooms.
